Enjoy a luxurious experience when you stay at this special place. Originally built as a family residence in 1875, it has also been a boarding house and most recently a bed and breakfast. We have turned each of the rooms into a suite. Rather than providing you with a just a bed and then a breakfast in the dining room at an assigned time, we are providing the freedom to sleep as long as you like, relax in your own private living room while watching television or reading about the history of Lynchburg. We also have provided a small kitchenette where you can make a cup of coffee and heat up your favorite breakfast food that you bring with you.
During your stay, if you wish, you'll be able to see the rest of our beautifully restored historic home yet you'll have your own private section of the house
You will have access to the main entryway of our home as well as the patio out back by the fountain. You may also choose to sit on our large front porch.
We will be in the home, but you probably will not see us. Our space is completely separate from the part you are renting from us. We don't use the same entrance or exit as you. Our side of the home is locked and you will have the ability to lock your side as well.
Located in historic Daniels Hill this 1878 Italianate mansion has been authentically restored to its original grandeur. As you drive through the brick and iron front gate imagine visitors exiting their horse-drawn carriages under the porte-cohere, being welcomed in the grand foyer and entertained in the formal front parlor.
Not only is this home the largest and finest Italianate mansion in the Daniels Hill Historic District it is the largest Italianate home in the city of Lynchburg. In the spring of 1875, Richard Thomas Watts purchased the two lots on Daniels Hill for the sum of $2,150.00, onto which he erected his residence which took more than two years to construct.
The original main brick mass of the house was trimmed with three frame polygonal bay windows and with two small porches adorning the Cabell Street facade. Six outbuildings dotted the property, with two large frame structures fronting D Street. By 1902, two of the small outbuildings had been demolished, and one of the buildings on D Street was identified as a carriage house. More significantly, the Cabell Street facade of the main house had been renovated, and the Queen Anne porch features that can be seen on the house today had been added. This fine home is of the Italianate style as it resembles a Renaissance villa appropriate for a residence in a city. Predominately a rectangle both exterior and interior walls are constructed of three courses of brick. A compact, symmetrical floor plan features a sweeping staircase in the entry foyer. Rounded romanesque arches frame windows and doors. Pediments, scrolled brackets, pilasters, overhanging eaves and pillars were common on Italianate homes. Queen Victoria adopted this style of home for her residence on the Isle of Wright-Osborne House.
We have four parking spaces available in our driveway. There is also on street parking available. We are walking distance from the Blackwater Creek trail and a vibrant downtown life.

We came to visit our son at VES for parents weekend. In Florida, there is no seasonal change and the reds and yellows were spectacular this weekend.  Wishing you all the best!

Parent's weekend

We came to Lynchburg to get married in a small intimate ceremony with close family. Our stay here was warm, inviting and the most beautiful place. We were able to gather with our joining families and spend time together. Thank you Mike and Ruth! You and your home will always be part of our memories of this special day!

Wedding Party

We came to Lynchburg to celebrate 28 years and explore the city on our E-bikes. We could not have found a more interesting and historical place right in the middle of all we wanted to see and do!  Mike was so full of information and the house had a few other stories to tell. We had no idea that this inn was gonna blow us away in our expectations as it did. Super cool to look through the restoration and history books of the house.  We loved walking/biking to the bagel shop just over the bridge and bringing breakfast back to eat in the parlor. We hope to return soon and bring some friends.

So enjoyed our night stay on the last leg of our retirement and 51st anniversary trip.  Perfect place! Ya'll have done a wonderful job.
