GUEST ACCESS: Guests have private access to the entire coach house, including all bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, living spaces, games room, and private courtyard.
You are also welcome to explore much of the gated château estate, including woodland walking trails, open grassy areas, the orchard, and riverside spaces.
Please note: The Coach House sits on our family’s historic château estate. While you’ll enjoy your own private home and private courtyard, the wider grounds are shared with our family. You’ll occasionally see us around the property tending the gardens, caring for the grounds, or enjoying the estate with our two young children.
The garage, storage areas, maintenance spaces, and the château itself are not accessible to guests. The chapel may occasionally be closed to protect historic furnishings and fragile items.
We live on the château estate and are available if needed while fully respecting our guests’ privacy. We speak English and conversational French and are always happy to provide local recommendations, restaurant suggestions, and ideas for exploring the area. LOCATION: The Historic French Coach House is located near Montsûrs in the beautiful Mayenne region of western France, an area known for its rolling hills, peaceful countryside, charming villages, and relaxed pace of life. Here, you’ll find quiet country roads, scenic walks, local markets, and a slower rhythm that feels increasingly rare in today’s world.
Just a few minutes away, Montsûrs offers bakeries, cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, and everyday conveniences. The weekly Thursday market, held along the river, is a local favorite featuring organic produce, artisan foods, and regional specialties.
The coach house is ideally situated for exploring some of the most beautiful destinations in western France:
• Saint-Suzanne (20 minutes) – Officially recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, this stunning medieval hilltop village features cobbled streets, stone houses, ramparts, hiking trails, and a historic fortress.
• Laval (20 minutes) – A vibrant historic town with a medieval château, excellent restaurants, shopping, museums, riverside walks, and direct TGV service to Paris in approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.
• Château-Gontier-sur-Mayenne (45 minutes) – A picturesque riverside town known for its beautiful old center, gardens, cafés, and walking paths.
• Le Mans (45 minutes) – Famous for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, but equally impressive for its remarkably preserved medieval quarter, cathedral, and historic architecture.
• Rennes (1 hour) – The capital of Brittany, offering lively markets, beautiful historic streets, museums, and a thriving food scene.
• Angers (1 hour 15 minutes) – Home to one of France’s largest medieval fortresses, the famous Apocalypse Tapestry, elegant gardens, and a beautiful old town.

The coach house offers free on-site parking for up to four vehicles.
The nearest town, Montsûrs, is just a few minutes away and provides bakeries, small restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacies, and other everyday conveniences.
For guests arriving by train, Laval is approximately 20 minutes away and offers direct TGV service to Paris in about 1 hour 30 minutes. Rennes, Nantes, and Paris airports are all accessible by car and rail connections.
The surrounding area is ideal for scenic drives, cycling, hiking, château visits, local markets, and day trips throughout Mayenne, Brittany, Normandy, and the Loire Valley.
While the countryside setting is peaceful and rural, many of western France’s most popular destinations, including Saint-Suzanne, Le Mans, Rennes, Angers, Saint-Malo, and Mont-Saint-Michel, are easily accessible for day trips.
