Built in 1841, the Mount Victory Danish Schoolhouse ruins were part of the island's first built school system. A few steps outside the back door take you down to the home of our red-footed tortoises, which are considered to have first arrived on the island in the canoes of early migrators from South America. The ruins are a great place to chill out and slow yourself down...to tortoise pace.

About Mount Victory Camp The perfect place to stay if you are looking to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the island. At 600 ft elevation, nights are cooler and breezier than at sea level. Fall asleep to the sound of tree frogs and crickets. Wake up to beautiful sunrises over the hills. A 1.8 mile shady walk down a rainforest road brings you to white sand beaches. Mount Victory Camp is located in the "rain-forest", on the beautiful west end of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. We one studio apartment and three, one-room Nature Lodges that are tucked into the landscape so as to give all guests privacy, and a view of the surrounding valleys. 

More Details All guests have access to our main pavilion with campfire area, Wifi, large shared cooking space and fridge/freezer, shared bathhouse, and shared picnic tables and workspaces. 
The bathhouse with separate men's and women's rooms. There are two separate showers with private dressing stalls, hot water, and open roofs so you can see the stars at night.
We generally recommend renting a vehicle. St. Croix is much larger than the other Virgin Islands, so a car makes it much easier to get around and explore the whole island. It also makes it much easier to get groceries and to do trips to different beaches. However, for those who are on a tight budget, it is do-able without a rental car if you like walking. It is 1.8 miles fairly steep road to the beach and 3.5 miles from town (Frederiksted). Once in town, you can catch a public taxi van for $2.50 and ride it all the way to Christiansted or anywhere in between along the taxi's fixed route. The taxi's do not run after dark.
We (family-owned) live on the grounds, so are usually around if guests have questions about the camp or the island in general. However, if some guests just want to have their own quiet space, they will find that easy to do as well. We are up in the hills, 1.8 miles from the beach, in what is locally referred to as "the rainforest." It is a quiet, natural area, with forest and farms.
Guests are free to roam the 7 acre property with our Nature Trail though the woods. Or bring a hammock or blanket to enjoy the grounds.
