Just 1 mile from Baptist Hospital, 4 miles from Wake Forest University, and 10 minutes from downtown, this light-filled retreat is perfect for medical travelers, university visitors, couples, or small families. The washer / dryer is all yours during your stay! Free Parking on a well-lit, low traffic street is available right next to the short sidewalk that will deliver you to the Door. NOTE: The basement entrance is only a few steps from the street, but there are two steps DOWN into the apartment when you open the door. This is the only impediment to wheel chairs. There is a fence gate when you enter the patio. Please close the gate to keep our Posey, our small, friendly dog from wandering away! We are proud of our city and we enjoy hosting others. We consider you as guests of ours. We will not force ourselves on you, but we frequently make an effort to bump into guests when coming or going. We probably meet about 80% of our guests. The BEST way to communicate with us is using the Air BnB messaging app. When you send a message, the app pings both of our phones. One (or both) of us will likely respond almost immediately. Heating and A/C: Different guests have different temperature needs. The only thermostat in the house is on the main floor. Sometimes there is a temperature difference between Upstair and Downstairs, and we are unaware of it. PLEASE don't hesitate to let us know if you would like it warmer or cooler. There is a thermometer on a nook on the wall behind the couch. It is helpful for us to know what the current temperature IS NOW, and whether you are asking for it to be warmer or cooler. (Telling us to turn the A/C "down" creates a dillema.......does "down " mean you wanter it cooler or is it blowing too much cool air!?) Let us know if you'd like any suggestions or recommendations! Buena Vista (pronounced Byoo-na vista) is Winston's premier, well established neighborhood that was on the "outskirts" of town in the 1920's. Large oak trees shade sidewalk-lined streets with minimal traffic, except on major thorough fares. The neighborhood is a delight to walk or bike around as it is filled with uniquely designed homes and beautifully landscaped yards and gardens. Centrally located, virtually everything WS offers is only minutes away: Downtown WS, WFU, Baptist Hospital, Lawrence Joel Coliseum and the Fairgrounds are easily reached in minutes by car, a little longer by bicycle. Once here, we provide you with a complete listing of all the neighborhood has to offer including Art Museums (SECCA and Reynolda House), Breweries and pubs, our favorite, immediately accessible eateries, both ethnic and non. Winston-Salem is super easy to navigate by car, Uber, even bicycle. Walking is a bit of a chore as Winston is spread out, and the bus system is is a very inefficient means of getting places quickly. Parking at The Dragonfly is super easy and convenient! Though our address is 402 Carolina Circle, we are a corner house on Car Cir and Springdale. Park on Springdale beside the short brick path even with the back of the house. (You'll see a sign on the fence saying "402"). You will be 15 footsteps away from the door to the Dragonfly, immediately under the covered patio. Because we are only a few houses away from St Leo's Catholic Church, parking on the street can get "competitive" during the hours of 4:30 - 6:30 pm on Saturdays, and Sunday mornings. Special accessibility note: Though our apt is only a few footsteps away from the street, a person must be able to make 2 steps down to get into the apartment at the entryway. For this reason, The Dragonfly is not the best alternative for someone in a wheelchair. We can provide a bicycle for anyone that wants to explore the neighborhood. (Just ask, and we will make it available!) Winston is a hilly place, and a trip downtown does present one, fairly long, though not terribly steep uphill climb. Nevertheless, bicycling is a perfect way to explore Reynolda Gardens just off the WFU campus, the SECCA art museum and grounds, and numerous eating and drinking venues. We do ask that you keep the gates closed as you come and go (we have a small, friendly dog named Posey who you might meet! As guests have stayed over the last 3 years, we have added amenities based on their suggestions. We have added: 1) A portable ice maker. It is always on and making ice cubes for your stay. About once every 45 minutes, it will dump a small batch of cubes in a bin. The first time you hear it, it can be startling! Feel free to turn it off when you go bed if think it will disturb you! 2) Brita Water filter. Filtered water is available from a Brita water filter in the refrigerator. 3) For children, there is a swing set in the back of the yard. There are 2 seats: a regular seat and an infant bucket seat. Feel free to use! 4) We've added a keyless door lock which will be coded to the last 4 digits of your cell phone number . As a backup, there is also a key in a lockbox outside with the code of 0957. You should not need it at all unless you forget your own phone number!
