Muddy Boots – La Petite Mews (no dogs permitted)
A Romantic Boutique Retreat with French Soul
Hidden away in the heart of Kirkby Stephen, Muddy Boots – La Petite Mews is a thoughtfully curated reimagining of a traditional Cumbrian cottage, where countryside charm meets refined French Rococo elegance.
Ornate mirrors, graceful curves and layered textures combine with carefully chosen Farrow & Ball colour palettes, characterful Annie Sloan finishes and subtle Laura Ashley influences to create a boutique retreat filled with warmth, personality and timeless style. Inspired by confident maximalist interiors and rich decorative detail, every room has been designed to feel immersive, luxurious and effortlessly romantic.
Whether you're escaping for a weekend, celebrating a special occasion or exploring the beautiful landscapes of Cumbria, La Petite Mews offers an unforgettable stay unlike anywhere else in Kirkby Stephen.
Designed for Relaxation
This elegant two-bedroom retreat is perfect for couples, wedding guests, friends and small groups seeking a distinctive, design-led stay with boutique appeal.
Guests often mention our cleanliness, comfort and thoughtful touches — from freshly prepared rooms and quality linen to our complimentary Muddy Boots Escapes Breakfast Hamper.
The open-plan living and dining area blends classic architectural character with contemporary comfort, creating an inviting space to slow down and reconnect. A fully equipped kitchen makes both short breaks and extended stays effortless, while the dedicated vanity makeup & changing room adds an indulgent boutique touch for leisurely mornings and evenings out.
Intimate, stylish and unapologetically romantic, La Petite Mews delivers authentic French soul in the heart of the Eden Valley.
The Space
Two beautifully appointed bedrooms have been designed with exceptional sleep as the priority.
The principal bedroom features our signature Muddy Boots sleep solution — the luxurious Sleepeezee JESSICA Gel Topped Mattress — delivering outstanding comfort, pressure relief and support for a deeply restorative night's sleep.
The second bedroom offers an equally inviting double bed dressed in premium linens and elegant furnishings.
A contemporary bathroom is fresh and well appointed, while the dedicated vanity makeup & changing room provides a private, elegant setting for special occasion preparation.
Downstairs, the living space centres around a sumptuous Baltimore Lounge, deep, generously cushioned and wonderfully comfortable, inviting you to unwind after a day exploring the Lakes, the Yorkshire Dales or the surrounding fells.
Throughout the property, chinoiserie influences and expressive botanical artwork inspired by Diane Hill create a distinctive boutique atmosphere that feels both sophisticated and welcoming.
Outside, a private enclosed courtyard provides a peaceful spot for morning coffee, afternoon reading or a glass of wine beneath the evening sky.
