    The cottage sleeps five across two bedrooms (three beds, one bath) and comes stocked with everything you need to settle in: a full kitchen, a fire pit out back, and a covered porch made for coffee in the morning and every meal after. There’s total privacy, outdoor furniture and a hammock, fast Wi-Fi with a dedicated workspace if you must, and on-site parking. Dogs are welcome — this is their kind of place.

    The cottage sits behind the oldest house in the area — the original Hillcrest Manor, circa 1890 — once home to a local farmer whose land stretched across thousands of acres. (We live in that manor house now.) In the woods behind the guest house lie the remains of an even older homestead, said to date to the 1600s.
  </p>

    In the 1940s, the rolling land that is now the Hillcrest Wildlife Management Area raised prize bulls that took international championships. The same family owned the beloved amusement park that once stood in Chester — the man often credited with giving the town its start after buying up the land in the 1800s. And on what is now the WMA stood the famous Hillcrest Apple Orchards, where people came from all around to pick apples and taste cider right up into the 1970s.

    The cottage borders the 2,212-acre Hillcrest Wildlife Management Area — public West Virginia land, open to everyone, for hiking, birding, photography, and hunting or fishing on your own license. It’s the view past the porch, not a drive away. Guests regularly spot white-tailed deer, wild turkey, rabbits, geese and their goslings, chipmunks, and hummingbirds — and you may well meet our resident swan. Bring binoculars and a camera.

Being in the vacation rental business, I look at things differently than most travelers. I can say without hesitation this has been an exceptional experience. The property description was accurate as were the photos. It’s a very warm and welcoming environment and the hosts were top notch. I look forward to a return visit!

We really enjoyed our time and Brian & Charlene’s cottage with our two dogs. There were so many little touches that show what thoughtful hosts they are, they really anticipated everything a guest could need. The scenery was beautiful with both rolling hills and some wooded trails. Our dogs had a blast running and exploring! The hot tub was great with a lovely tree canopy! We’d love to come visit again!

Brian and Charlene were wonderful hosts. Our stay was peaceful and relaxing. The house was clean and homey. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen has all the cooking ware needed to make meals. The porch, yard, hammock, hot tub, and music speakers outside were the exact things we needed to take a breathe of fresh air from busy life. Amazing Experience - Highly Recommend!My wife and I had had the absolutely pleasure of staying at Hillcrest Manor for our honeymoon. It truly exceeded all our expectations. The attention to detail, the amenities, and the overall atmosphere were incredible. The owners were friendly, professional, and went out of their way to ensure we felt welcomed. At one point we needed something, the owners left it quietly and discreetly on the front steps. Didn’t even peer in the window at us… Very thoughtful of them. Everything was clean, well-maintained, and beautifully designed. One thing that stood out was the hot tub and outdoor area. It was the coziest aesthetic, bluetooth sound system inside and out, mountainside glistening with a fresh sheet of snow, and the perfect calmness that you would hope to experience out in nature. It was truly perfect. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a quite relaxing escape from the cares of life. We definitely hope to be welcomed back soon
