Handcrafted by local artisans using premium oak, The Mallard combines timeless craftsmanship with modern comfort. Inside, you’ll find a welcoming and thoughtfully arranged space, including a comfortable king-sized bed, a hand-made oak dining table with seating for two, and a bespoke fitted kitchen with a traditional farmhouse-style dresser and Belfast sink. Storage options inside and out (including a handy outdoor compartment for suitcases) ensure your living space stays clutter-free.
Your morning coffee ritual is elevated by the Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine, complete with a starter pack of coffee pods, allowing you to begin each day in style. The generously sized bathroom features a full-size shower cubicle, toilet, and washbasin, no compromises here. We also provide indulgent Black Pepper & Sandalwood toiletries. Soft towels are kept warm and fluffy thanks to a heated towel rail, making even the smallest comforts feel like luxuries.
Step outside into your own private paradise. Guests can wander freely to the nearby river, where a set of steppingstones leads to a secluded island glade, a perfect spot for a quiet picnic, an afternoon with a good book, or simply to breathe in the stillness of the Brecon Beacons. 
The elevated deck area is ideal for alfresco relaxation, whether you’re sipping wine at sunset or just soaking in the natural beauty. 
And of course, the bubbling hot tub is yours alone to enjoy. As with all our properties, it is emptied, cleaned, and refilled after each stay, so please allow up to 12 hours for it to reach the perfect temperature. For safety reasons, children under 16 and pregnant guests should refrain from using the hot tub, and we ask that all guests consult the safety information provided in the hut before use.
In addition to the scenic beauty, The Mallard also offers access to a variety of nearby footpaths across the farm’s sprawling acreage, perfect for long countryside walks and exploration. 
After a day of adventuring, you can return to your deck to fire up the flameless BBQ located conveniently on the front porch near the firewood, and enjoy an outdoor meal in total privacy. 
Eco-conscious travellers will appreciate the on-site EV charging stations, and we include thoughtful extras like a starter pack of tea, coffee pods and sugar sachets.

The Mallard Shepherd's Hut with Hot Tub

We absolutely loved our stay here and were blown away by the location. The hut itself was so cosy, with the log burner working beautifully to make the space nice and warm in the evenings. It was also so lovely to have a hot, hot tub to relax in each night. We will definitely be coming back.

The hut was lovely and in a great location. Amazing dark skys, we really enjoyed our time. Hot tub and a log fire are the perfect way to relax after some hikes!

Winter Retreat

We really enjoyed our stay at the Mallard. It had everything we needed and the bed was comfortable. The location is perfect if you want to be away from it all, which we did! Walkers will find it a perfect base for hiking. We booked during a New Moon phase so that we could see the stars above when the sky was clear and it was spectacular. We asked ahead for the hot tub to be switched on the morning we arrived so that we could use it when we got there and we were grateful that the host accommodated this request as we were a bit weary from the drive and it was the perfect way to relax (thank you!). We will definitely stay here again.

Just lovely!

Absolutely spotless, very comfy bed, great power shower, plenty of logs for the log burner, recycling very simple, secluded and private, easy to find. Hot tub water is changed after every booking and it then takes at least 12 hours to heat up and guests must be out by 10pm every night so there wasn't really any chance we would get any use of it out first night as the water was still not up to a reasonable temperature which was disappointing, especially after a 6 hour journey from Scotland. Fully understand that hygiene comes first though.

Spent two nights with my best friend for a girls weekend. The location was perfect and so serene. Hot tub was amazing, bed was comfortable and you had everything you needed for a mini stay. Would definitely come back!
