Embrace the natural charm and cosy interiors of The Flying Scotsman, a handcrafted shepherd’s hut set in the heart of the Crai Valley. This romantic riverside retreat offers a truly unique escape, lovingly built by local Welsh craftsmen using premium oak and red cedar. Perfect for couples, solo adventurers, and even a small dog, this is where comfort meets the call of the wild.
Wake each morning to the sound of birdsong drifting in through the open terrace doors, and by evening, unwind in the warmth of the log burner or gaze at the stars from the private hot tub. Situated near one of the darkest areas in the Dark Skies Reserve, stargazing here is unforgettable.
Inside, you’ll find a beautifully arranged space that balances practicality and luxury. The hut features a comfortable double bed, a handcrafted oak dining table with seating for two, and a traditional farmhouse-style kitchen, with belfast sink and a charming dresser, fully equipped for your stay.
You'll also enjoy a Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine, complete with a starter pack of coffee pods, ideal for starting slow mornings or fuelling your next adventure.
The bathroom defies expectations with a full-sized shower cubicle, toilet, and washbasin, far from the usual compact shepherd hut facilities. Cleverly designed storage spaces, including an outdoor compartment for suitcases and bulky gear, ensure you have everything you need without compromising on space.
Outside, The Flying Scotsman offers spectacular valley views and direct access to the river.Guests can step across a series of stones to discover a hidden island, an enchanting spot perfect for picnics, reading, or quiet reflection in nature.
Wander the surrounding footpaths, lose yourself in the peaceful landscape, or simply relax on your private deck with a large glass of wine in hand.
Your private hot tub offers the ultimate in relaxation after a day of hiking or exploring the Brecon Beacons. As with all our properties, the hot tub is cleaned, emptied, and refilled after each guest, so please allow up to 12 hours for it to reach the desired temperature. For safety, it is not suitable for children under 16 or pregnant women, and we kindly ask all guests to review the guidelines provided in the hut before use.
To make your stay even more comfortable, a thoughtful starter pack with tea, sugar sachets, and Nespresso pods is provided on arrival. Luxurious Black Pepper & Sandalwood toiletries are also provided including shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, while heated towel rails ensure your towels stay warm and fluffy.
Guests can also benefit from on-site EV charging stations, supporting eco-conscious travel to and from this tranquil retreat. A flameless BBQ is also available for guests to use, this is usually located in the front porch area near the firewood.

Flying Scotsman Shepherd's Hut with Hot Tub

We had the most beautiful stay at The Flying Scotsman. The scenery is absolutely stunning, and falling asleep to the sound of sheep before waking to kestrels calling was pure bliss. I want to give 5 stars but the only tiny suggestion would be some more comfortable outdoor seating to really soak up those incredible views. Other than that, it was perfect, and we can't wait to come back!
