Barefoot Sands

Jack (the owner) has thought of everything.  We stayed for a week with my wife and two kids (12yo and 9yo).  Having three bedrooms gave everybody their own space, yet we spent most of the time together in the common areas and outside.  Any time we had a question, Jack’s response came in before I even put my phone down, just about every time.  This place hasn’t been rented much, since it is effectively brand new.  Given that, we were somewhat hesitant to book a place that doesn't have a deep track record of rentals.  Oh boy were we wrong.  The home is in superb condition, and has EVERYTHING you could imagine for a long or brief stay.

We rented a boat from the next door neighbors for four of the days.  My kids got a thrill of visiting deserted beaches, shelling, and snorkeling.  We tried kayaking and paddleboarding, which we briefly enjoyed, but it was a bit windy the week we were there (from what locals told me, March is the windiest month).  We still enjoyed it. We did some fishing and caught a few fish.  I can’t even count the number of small and LARGE starfish we found.

Last, but definitely not the least: the beach!!! It was shallow with a sandbar that goes out for thousands of feet!  It was perfect for having a low-stress vacation with kids.  During the week, there were only two times that a small group of people walked out the sandbar, and we had the beach in front of the house to ourselves the entire week.  Only once did a retired couple walk by and briefly talked with us.

If you must have nightlife and crowds, go elsewhere.  We were looking for a place to truly unwind and get away, and we were not disappointed.

We’ve now been to the Bahamas 4 times (Exuma, Long Island, Paradise Island, and Abaco), and this is by far our favorite trip.  If we have the opportunity to come back to Abaco, we know exactly where we will stay again.
