La Rana e L’Ulivo — Slow Stays, Monterubiaglio
Set in the medieval Umbrian hill village of Monterubiaglio, just south of Orvieto, La Rana e L’Ulivo is a characterful holiday home within a restored 18th-century town house.
Created for relaxed stays, the house combines original vaulted ceilings, antique furniture and individual artisan details with contemporary comforts including air conditioning, heating, Wi-Fi and a fully equipped kitchen.
Guests have two characterful bedrooms, a welcoming living room with wood-burning stove, kitchen dining room, shower room and their own private garden with outdoor dining and hot tub.
Parking, Bicycles & Outdoor Gear Monterubiaglio is a medieval hilltop village built long before the arrival of the motor car. Like local residents, guests park in the village’s public parking areas or on the street wherever parking is permitted. Free parking is available at the Parco Robinson village car park.
La Rana e L’Ulivo is also well placed for exploring the surrounding countryside by bicycle, e-bike or on foot. Guests have access to a separate, lockable storage room for bicycles, walking equipment and other outdoor gear. A wall socket is available for charging e-bikes. Guests must bring their own compatible e-bike charger.
Monterubiaglio sits beautifully between Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio, making the house an excellent base for discovering local food and wine, historic villages, countryside and the towns surrounding Orvieto.
Above all, La Rana e L’Ulivo is somewhere to slow down, settle in and experience a more personal side of Italy.
A little note: La Rana e L’Ulivo is reached by a flight of stairs, and the garden has an un-gated pond and hot tub. We do not provide a cot or high chair - please keep these features in mind when planning your stay.
Your Hosts
Your hosts live year-round in a completely separate home on the upper floors of the palazzo and are available should you need help, recommendations or assistance arranging local experiences.
Our family also includes our friendly Cockapoo dog, Muffin, and cats Tigger and Sooty, whom you may occasionally see or hear around the adjoining family garden.

La Rana e L'Ulivo - Vacanze Slow Monterubiaglio

We stayed at La Rana e l’Ulivo over New Year with two friends and had a wonderful few days.
The house is beautifully restored, stylish but also incredibly warm and welcoming — exactly the kind of place you want to come back to after a winter day exploring Umbria.
We loved the cosy evenings by the fire and the relaxed, homely atmosphere.
Deborah was an exceptional host. She knows the area incredibly well and was always generous with recommendations and practical help. I happened to be struggling with some back pain during our stay, and within no time she had found me contacts for local physiotherapists and a nearby pharmacy. That kind of thoughtful, genuinely caring attention made a huge difference and says a lot about the way she looks after her guests.
Monterubiaglio itself is a lovely, atmospheric village, and the house is a great base for exploring Orvieto and the surrounding countryside. We were there in winter, which gave everything a wonderfully peaceful feel, and there was plenty to discover nearby.
A beautiful house, a memorable stay and, above all, a host who really makes you feel looked after.
We’d happily go back.

A Warm Winter Stay with Exceptional Hospitality

While travelling in Italy with my teenage son, we met up with a group of friends at La Rana e L’Ulivo and spent four nights in the beautiful old village of Monterubiaglio.
A truly delightful house, perfectly restored with an exquisite balance of elegance, comfort and cosiness. There is a wonderful sense of peace throughout the house, surrounded by beauty both indoors and out. From the moment you arrive, you feel ready to enjoy a truly “slow” stay.
Our hostess was exceptional — warm, attentive and generous with her time. She opened her impressive address book of local knowledge to us, sharing wonderful recommendations for local producers, authentic experiences, food and music.
The apartment is a perfect base for discovering the region. Orvieto offers so much culture, history and sightseeing, as well as a lively calendar of music festivals and events.
We visited in winter, when the village had a particularly atmospheric and peaceful charm. We look forward to returning in summer, when we can also enjoy the garden, which was still being completed during our stay.
A very special place that we would happily return to.

A Special Winter Escape in Umbria

L’arredo è curato in ogni minimo dettaglio.

What a wonderful place to stay and experience a true taste—both literally and metaphorically—of Italy. I stayed for four nights and left feeling relaxed and refreshed after immersing myself in this beautiful Italian village. The hosts were exceptional and always on hand to help with any questions or needs.
Visit the local “pub”, enjoy delicious local food and wine, breathe in the clean air while taking in the views, and use the house as a base from which to explore further afield—you won’t be disappointed.
My stay was genuinely life-changing. It gave me the space to slow down and savour all that life has to offer, and I encourage you to do the same.
