Stay Inside the Architecture

Spend a relaxing weekend, or stay longer, in this distinctive 600 square foot poolside studio suite, created for travelers who appreciate architecture, design, art, and the particular magic of Palm Springs.

More than a vacation rental, this is an intimate, highly curated modernist retreat. Collector-quality vintage furniture, original artwork, design books, and carefully selected architectural details create an environment that feels like a private design collection you can actually live in.

A Living Room for Design Lovers

The living room is furnished with collector-quality vintage pieces, including Adrian Pearsall couch and chair, and an extensive library of books devoted to architecture and design, with a special emphasis on Palm Springs. Local artists work is displayed throught this wonderful studio.

Spend an afternoon exploring the books and discovering the architects, houses, interiors, and designers that made Palm Springs one of America’s great centers of midcentury modernism. Then venture out and see them for yourself.

A Kitchen Made for Cooking

The newly renovated European-style kitchen is designed for more than simply making coffee. A full-size refrigerator and freezer and generous workspace make it easy to prepare everything from a simple breakfast to a leisurely gourmet dinner.

If there is something special you would like to have in the kitchen during your stay, just let us know and we will do our best to have it waiting for you when you arrive.

Architecture You Can Move Through

One of the studio’s most distinctive architectural elements is its original wood accordion wall, which separates the living/lounge area from the bedroom.

The wall is fully functional, allowing the studio to transform from an open loft-like space into a more private bedroom suite. It is a wonderful example of the kind of flexible, space-conscious design characteristic of midcentury interiors.

A Bedroom with a Modernist Legacy

The bedroom features an exceptionally comfortable king-size Case Study bed, connecting the space to the celebrated tradition of California modernist furniture and architecture.

Crisp white 100% cotton linens, a European duvet, and king-size pillows create a luxurious and restful setting. Duvet covers are freshly washed after every stay, so everything is clean and fresh for your arrival.

Blackout drapes provide complete privacy and ensure a deeply restful night’s sleep.

Twelve Feet of Glass Between You and the Desert

Expansive 12-foot sliding glass doors with screens open the bedroom onto a stunning 200-square-foot private patio.

The patio is furnished with a comfortable couch, chairs, and a small dining table. At its center is an extraordinary concrete fire bowl, creating an intimate place to gather after sunset.

A commercial-grade gas grill is kept clean and ready for use, making outdoor dining part of the experience.

A Bathroom Worth Noticing

The newly renovated bathroom combines contemporary European design with high-quality materials. Ann Sacks tile and a sleek European shower panel are complemented by original artwork.

Generous toiletries are provided, along with plush 100% white cotton towels and washcloths.

Your Own Small Piece of Palm Springs Modernism

From the original accordion wall to the architectural library, from the Case Study bed to the private fire bowl, every element has been selected to create an experience that is comfortable, authentic, and deeply connected to Palm Springs’ design heritage.

Come for the sunshine and pool. Stay for the architecture, art, books, and extraordinary indoor-outdoor living.

A Palm Springs stay for people who don’t just want to visit the architecture, but want to experience it.

#4 Studio Suite (PSP ID#4047) 2-night minimum

The Desert Star was one of the best Airbnbs we have ever stayed at. It was stylish and tasteful and the bed was very comfortable. The pool was clean and relaxing, and the environment was quiet for our stay. We loved the private back patio and enjoyed using the fire pit in the evening. This is a 5-star place and we will absolutely stay here again next time we’re in Palm Springs.

The Desert Star #4

I hesitate to even write a public review because now that we've found The Desert Star, we always want to find a room to come back. Richard and Debra's oasis here completely surpassed our expectations: the room (and whole complex) is stylishly appointed and impeccably clean, the pool is salt water (not chlorine), and warm! And even having access to our own little back yard was a dream. Because there was a well-equipped kitchen as well, we were able to cook and even barbecue our own meals, and really have time to ourselves. We can't wait to return one day. This place really makes the Palm Springs experience; why would we ever go to a "regular," larger hotel now?

We loved our stay at the Desert Star. Richard is a host of the highest order— he remedied errors I made on our reservation, he was prompt to respond by text, and even found my missing wallet. Aside from the Desert Star’s amazing host, our unit was immaculately clean, thoughtfully furnished, and two steps from the pool. We found our stay so relaxing and can’t wait to return.
