Guests are welcome to explore the surrounding grounds, with local amenities including the CBD, tennis courts, Tambo dam and the Barcoo River just a short walk away. As part of Wild Wood Park Retreat, the property is gradually being enhanced with additional outdoor features to create a more unique and memorable outback stay. Staying at Oakwood House in Tambo was a truly special experience, made even more meaningful because it was my mother’s former family home. From the moment we arrived, the house felt welcoming, peaceful, and full of character. It was lovely to spend time in a place with such personal history, while also enjoying the comfort and charm it offers today.
The home has a warm, homely feel, with plenty of space to relax and appreciate its unique heritage. It was clean, comfortable, and well suited for a quiet and memorable stay. Being able to reconnect with family memories in such a beautiful setting made the visit especially meaningful.
I would gladly recommend Oakwood House to anyone visiting Tambo, especially those who appreciate historic homes, a relaxed country atmosphere, and accommodation with genuine warmth. It was more than just a place to stay — it was a meaningful and memorable experience.
The owners, Michelle and Kirri, were wonderful to communicate with and had thought of everything to make our stay extremely comfortable. There was plenty of room for the whole family to relax and enjoy our time in Tambo.
The home is perfectly situated in a quiet street, just a short walk from Arthur Street, Tambo’s main street, where you’ll find great cafés, Tambo Teddies, historical sites, and the famous Chicken Races at the pub.
Our whole family, especially my mother, Millie McKnight Dillon, highly recommends Oakwood House as a fabulous place to stay.
