The Location
Alresford village has a good selection of shops and takeaways within walking distance of the property, as well as riverside strolls along the River Colne and access to several fantastic nature reserves and gardens worth exploring, such as The Beth Chatto Gardens, planted in the 1960s, Cockaynes Wood, an ancient woodland mentioned in the Doomsday Book and home to a variety of birdlife, including barn owls, as well as the Essex Wildlife Trust's Fingringhoe Wick, a set of quarries that have been turned into a nature reserve and form part of the Colne Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest. Seven miles away, the historic city of Colchester offers a wider range of amenities and eateries, as well as an impressive 12th century castle, built on the foundations of a Roman temple, and there are many remains of Roman architecture still present in the city, including the remains of a theatre in the Dutch Quarter. Stroll the park that surrounds the castle and pay a visit to Hollytrees Museum, while foodies will enjoy a trip to Mersea Island, the home of the native oyster. Explore the National Trust's Bourne Mill, originally built as a fishing lodge in the late 16th century, and for a more bustling environment, you can hop on a train and head into London with ease, should you wish to spend the day in the thriving capital city.
Alternatively, head to the coast at Clacton-on-Sea, less than ten miles away, to discover a host of beaches as well as plenty of entertainment, from an amusement park to a pavilion and pier, making this a great way to spend a day when the sun is shining.
The city of Chelmsford is within driving distance, with its 11th century cathedral, museum of local history and excellent shopping and dining out facilities, while the picturesque countryside of the Dedham Vale AONB, on the Essex/Suffolk border, is also easily accessible.

Woodpeckers - Alresford Essex

This was our 2nd trip to Woodpecker's this year, all I can say is it is one of the most amazing and relaxing places we have stayed at.

We first stayed in May 25, we had our dog with us for his first "holiday" we were blown away that he even got his own goody basket, the attention to detail is fantastic and you will not be looked after by anyone more than Debbie, nothing was ever too much trouble, she goes above and beyond to make you feel at home and special, we also enjoyed the pool as well which is a bonus.

We came back for Christmas, without the dog, we enjoyed it in a different way, we just relaxed and chilled in the hot tub, the moment we got there the stress of life disappeared and I was able to completely switch off which is almost unheard of.

So thank you Debbie!

Amazing Home from home!

Debbie's place is absolutely beautiful! We had such a lovely stay here. Debbie made us feel at home & welcomed. We were pleasantly surprised with how beautiful the place was inside & out. There was nothing we could possibly ask for as everything, & more, was there to hand. The hot tub was a bonus! We bought along our cocker spaniel so the big space was brilliant. We are looking forward to our next visit & will of course be recommending Debbie & her beautiful lodge to all friends & family members. Thank you Debbie x

Had a fabulous week

This is an amazing property it had everything we needed & Debbie was a fantastic host. The property had everything for cooking & cleaning & benifited from having a lovely open garden for kids to safely play in.

The area has lovely quiet beaches & coastline & is great for water sports, cycling & walking or just relaxing.....

We mainly cooked for ourselves & had no problems stocking up, so you don't need to bring loads of stuff with you.

The area also specialises in lots of locally caught & cooked seafood the best we've had for sometime in the U. K.

As northeteners it was lovely to see so much sun. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic stay at Debbie's

We had the most fantastic stay at Debbies place.

From the moment we booked the place til the moment we left, Debbie catered to all our needs. As a host she was welcoming and friendly but not intrusive.

The place was lovely, had stylish interior and had been newly renovated. The place was kitted out with all the equipment you could possibly need, including a Bbq on the outside patio which was a nice touch. We enjoyed the big garden a lot and made use of the swimming pool.

The thing we enjoyed most was the personal touches: fresh eggs from their hens when we arrived, milk & OJ and fresh flowers etc. The only thing in this trip that wasn’t perfect was the road next to the house. However we soon got used to the noise.

We’d very much recommend booking this place.
