Lissadell on the Sea - Lissadell Estate, Yeats Country

We loved Lissadell on the Sea so much that we didn’t want to tell anyone about it. Just a secret between us. But we did promise a review …

It was beautiful. Peaceful. Magical. A little lonely in a poetic way. We had planned to go see things, do things, but when we arrived we abandoned any thought of leaving. Our biggest decisions became, “Should we go for a walk or stay by the fire with our books and knitting?”

We met the owners, who invited us to the Lissadell estate house for a coffee and a tour, kindly giving up part of their Sunday morning. We wandered the grounds, visiting the beautiful walled gardens and strolling the beaches.

Oh, and the house. Renovated and refurbished, but only in good ways, everything in keeping with the style and age of a cottage on an Irish sea. Supplied with breakfast essentials and wine. Gorgeously decorated with top of the line kitchen appliances and luxurious bath amenities. Down-filled, linen sofas and plenty of books. Surprises such as an etching by Jack Yeats and a hidden reading nook overlooking the sea. Two bedrooms with beautiful linens, so there’s room for another couple, but who would want that? We wished to stay forever.

Can you keep a secret?

We spent two wonderful nights at Lissadell with our two young children and loved every minute of our stay.

The setting is perfect, located right beside the sea, with full access to the Lissadell Estate. Our children loved the freedom of being able to run on the beach and enjoy the grounds.

We genuinely didn’t want to leave after our two nights and were already talking about coming back. Thanks to Eddie, Constance, Helen and all the team for the very warm welcome.

Thank you

Arrived to a roaring fire, with the sea crashing outside. On an early morning run on the Estate, greeted by Edward letting us know about the fresh tomatoes in the greenhouse and herbs. Also had the pleasure of seeing a family of hares run past as the morning dew was rising. The boys explored the forest, swam in the sea, saw the animals and surfed during the day. At night we shared stories around a firepit as we toasted our marshmallows. We will be back, such an amazing time. We created memories, and were energised and well rested.
