The Hoyt House was built in 1763 and is one of the oldest homes in the area. Recently renovated to modern sensibilities, it still retains that historic charm: older than the country it sits in, on Manchester’s unique marble sidewalk with beautiful views. Prepared by experienced local hosts with everything you need to cook a great meal and furniture you can relax on.
Conveniently located in the village along the marble sidewalk, between the Ekwanok County Club and the Equinox Golf Resort & Spa, just down the road from Burr & Burton Academy, Orvis, and Hildene, and an easy drive to Bromley & Stratton! Convenient to all the attractions of Southern Vermont, from skiing, hiking, and fishing to shopping and theater. 
From the historic entry you move through the spacious living room and dining room into the newly renovated kitchen with gorgeous views including the back of Bromley Mountain--sunrise in the winter is spectacular. Out of the back door is a marble patio and yard overlooking the mountains, with an outdoor dining set in summer. The first floor also features a spacious master suite, study, and 1.5 bathrooms. Upstairs you’ll find 2 more bedrooms and a bath. There is shed storage for skis/boards and bikes.

As this is a historic home, it has its unique attributes, including handblown glass, uneven floors, and other little idiosyncrasies that speak to the legacy of the generations who have called this their home.
There are baseboard heaters with a range up to 70 degrees&nbsp;for winter, and mini split&nbsp;air conditioners with a low of 70F that can typically cool to about 20 degrees below outside temperature.
Because of the proximity of neighbors in this quiet little village, we take quiet hours after 10 PM seriously and cannot allow parties. Our home shares an adjoining wall with another house, like a townhouse. It is a full size house and quite private for being in the village.

Stratton Getaway

We absolutely enjoyed our stay in Manchester. We celebrated our daughter’s surprise wedding engagement with family members from both families. Although Manchester is known as a skiing destination with its proximity to Bromley and Stratton, it offers so much more. There’s also the Historic relevance of Mary Todd Lincoln having spent summers in Manchester after her husband’s assassination and, it is also a world reknown destination for fly fishermen. The famous Battenkill River runs through Town Center and there’s something here for everyone. 








As for the accommodations, I can’t stress how incredible an experience it was to stay in a home that has stood for 260 years. Formerly a Blacksmith shop, our host Juliet has done a tremendous job trying to preserve historic elements while satisfying the needs of 21st century guests. She has done a fine job at that. Had this home been fitted out in glass, marble and fancy hardware on the doors, it would be a contradiction and certainty out of place.

Skiing with Kids

The house is beautiful and full of personality. The location is amazing, if you like impeccably kept historic homes, marble sidewalks, and mountain views. The host was responsive and very welcoming. Highly recommend.
