The Space
The property consists of separate buildings connected via bush tracks. The main retreat is a kitchen, dining and living room with two day-beds (two single beds as an option). It also has a generous deck space with BBQ and amazing views of the Sounds. 
 
- The other two cabins are spacious bedrooms with private decks and full ensuites with rainfall showers. 
 
- The bedding configuration can be a super king with optional full height trundle bed or three singles. 
 
- The bedroom cabins also contain tea / coffee making facilities and a mini fridge. - Only need one bedroom cabin?  Get in touch and we'll be happy to offer a lower price. Guest access
The entire property will be for your exclusive use during your stay. 
 
Access is via an electronic code door and lock boxes to access keys for the bedroom cabin.
 
Other things to note
Access is via water only. There is no road access. You will need to organise your own transport to the retreat via a Sounds transfer, water taxi or your own boat. This is easy to do and we can guide you on this once you have booked. (Cost approx. $60 each way per person via a Sounds transfer or if a larger group of people the cost is less) 
 
Be sure to take all your food with you for your stay. Once you are at the property there is nowhere to stock up short of ordering in a grocery order via a water taxi. 
 
It may be a bit tricky to get to the property from the jetty an hour or two either side of high tide, but we will guide you on the best arrival and departure times once you have booked to avoid the high tide. As such we can vary the check in and check out times to suit and you can wait on the jetty overlooking the water for the tide to drop enough to pass should you need to. 
 
There is a climb of approximately 150 steps to get to the cabins. Please see the photos for an idea of the access, all luggage and groceries will need to be carried up these stairs.

Kahikatea Bay Retreat

Absolutely beautiful! Photos in the listing just don’t do it justice, it was incredible. There’s so many luxury details throughout the home and they were very much appreciated.

Luxury Details

This spot is pretty stunning and definitely worth the climb up the hill for a view over the bay. The fireplace worked really well, and the floor plan was really well thought out. Plus, it’s clean and tidy. And there’s great fishing right out front for the kids, and it’s not too far to get to by boat.

I was so very fortunate to stay at Kahikatea Bay in March and it was beyond my expectations.  Perched above a secluded cove, it is a beautiful home with top notch facilities and fixtures.  Its location is stunning, as are the views and crystal clear night skies filled with stars.  Dawn swims were the perfect start to the day and it will be hard to match the sunset views at cheese and wine o’clock .
Our fantastic host Jac made it such a smooth process.  From our first enquiries through to booking water taxis and food deliveries.  Nothing was any trouble for her.
I will definitely be returning…for longer next time. Thank you.

Beyond Expectation

I stayed at Kahikatea Bay in March. It is the perfect place to relax and get away from it all, the accommodation was perfect very comfortable beds and stunning views across the Sound. In fact from every angle you had views overlooking the water even from the bathroom. Everything was very well laid out and also there was every consideration for our needs. It was so clean and stylish, just a gorgeous place to stay. It was such fun picking mussels from the shore and steaming them. An amazing luxurious place to completely unwind. The host has obviously gone to great detail in providing everything for a wonderful retreat.

Perfect Place to Relax

Given only accessed by boat some coordination and planning required but it is 100% worth it.  Such an amazing property, we never wanted to leave!  Had the most amazing sunset of our whole 2 weeks in NZ!  We got so much support from the hosts that it made the journey smooth and provided all the relaxation we were seeking.  Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise!
