The Moose and Squirrel is our rustic vacation home in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina.
Though there are no moose in this part of our world, there are plenty of squirrels along with woodchucks, chipmunks, deer, turkey, rabbits and tons of birds. You will enjoy watching the hummingbirds and butterflies flit in and out, dive bombing wildflower blooms, rhododendron blossoms, or the hummingbird feeders located on property.
In the summertime, the fireflies twinkle amidst the trees.
The upper terrace wraps around a 100 year old Maple tree that has seen its share of history.
Autumn in this part of the world is a spectacular blend of vibrant colored leaves and cool nights with the smell of wood burning fires. Pick out your own pumpkin from nearby pumpkin patches, take a hayride or challenge yourself with a corn maze.
If you are looking for a cozy retreat with snow covered vistas, this is the place to be for the winter ski and holiday season. Cut your own Christmas tree, cozy by the fire after a day of winter activities, or heat up in the sauna then relax your bones in the hot tub while looking out at the view.
Come enjoy yourselves with family and friends at the chalet!
Below is a list of websites that will lead you to many attractions, favorite things to do and activities in the area.

The Moose and Squirrel Chalet

This place was AWESOME! So relaxing yet so much to do and in such a beautiful area. The views from the hot tub at sunset were amazing. We grilled out a couple of nights and the kids had a fire in the fire pit and grilled weenies and marshmallows, played corn hole and horseshoes down at the game room while us parents sipped wine and hung out by the hot tub and sauna. There are 2 bedrooms upstairs and a full living suite downstairs with it's own kitchen and bathroom. We had a great time! We will be back! There are so many things to do in the Banner Elk area we couldn't see it all this trip but will definitely be back to "The Moose". our new mountain home away from home! Thanks Ann!

A GEM! Our new home away from home!

Thank you so much for your hospitality and the use of your mountain retreat. We absolutely loved it.. The chalet was tastefully decorated and fully equipped. We used the grill to cook a couple of meals to stay at “home” and eat. It was great. The views were spectacular and it is located close to many attractions. We went to Grandfather Mountain, Sugar Mountain, Blowing Rock, and Boone. We visited the Linville Caverns and dined at a few of great local restaurants. At the end of a busy day, we came back and sat on the multitude of porches and sitting areas while sipping some of the local wines from the wineries. Not to mention the hot tub was very soothing and the view from the hot tub is spectacular. This is an excellent place to unwind and we plan on making another trip in the winter to go skiing or tubing. Thanks again. We really enjoyed ourselves.
