Welcome to the Doctor’s 1781 House on the Green in the Litchfield Historic District, a Registered Landmark. We are thrilled to share with our guests this beautifully preserved 1781 house and gardens in Connecticut’s quintessential colonial village. Located among historic homes and buildings and across the Green from Litchfield's charming restaurants and shops, walk in the footsteps of Washington, Tallmadge, Rochambeau, Harriet Beecher Stowe and other luminaries of America’s beginnings.

The building is approximately 2000 square feet with four bedrooms and 2.5 baths, suitable for a couple for a romantic getaway or a family for a trip into history. 

On the first floor there are two large private bedrooms on opposite ends of the house each with queen size beds. There is a kitchenette in the “studio” bedroom with a full size refrigerator and large microwave along with a kitchen counter and sink suitable for food preparation. The studio has direct access to the private patio within the gardens. Next is an indoor dining area with seating for 8 and a central living room connecting the other bedroom with deluxe queen bed (provided by Saatva!).

Upstairs on the second floor you come to a loft area with a queen bed - to the left is a bedroom with two twin beds - fun for the kids? - and to the right is a separate remote working space with two large office desks and office chairs with French doors which can be closed for privacy. 

The entire house is fully air conditioned.

On the outside the 1781 house is surrounded by gardens and has its own private patio. There is enough space in the large private parking area behind the house for the Continental Army - or at least several cars.

The entire building and studio patio is open to our guests. The Village Green is at your doorstep and is lovely for a stroll anytime of day. Enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Litchfield is the quintessential and popular New England historic colonial village with several restaurants, period buildings and historical sites. It’s also a great gateway to the Berkshires with Great Barrington and Tanglewood only about 1 hour away.

There is ample open air parking in the rear of the property. All the restaurants and historical sites are easily accessible on foot.

There is a kitchenette with a full size refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker in the studio bedroom.
