A Private Palm Springs Retreat for Design Lovers

Spend a relaxing weekend, or stay longer, in this distinctive 600 square foot poolside studio suite, where authentic midcentury design meets contemporary comfort and quintessential Palm Springs indoor-outdoor living.
This is not a generic vacation rental. The studio has been thoughtfully furnished around an appreciation for California modernism, iconic furniture design, vintage materials, and the playful optimism of the midcentury era.

Original Midcentury Details, Thoughtfully Updated

One of the studio’s most distinctive features is the original Boomerang Formica kitchen bar, featuring the celebrated pattern first designed by Brooks Stevens in 1950 and refined by Raymond Loewy in 1954. This remarkable piece of postwar design has been preserved while the kitchen itself has been completely renovated with new stainless-steel appliances and contemporary amenities.
The result is a kitchen that retains its historical character while functioning beautifully for today’s guests. If there is something special you would like to have in the kitchen during your stay, just let us know and we will do our best to have it waiting for you when you arrive.
Throughout the living space, an eclectic collection of important midcentury furnishings creates a warm, highly personal environment. An Eames divider/shelving unit anchors the room alongside Case Study sofas, a vintage Scandinavian tile coffee table, and Danish armchairs upholstered in leather. Vintage fabric down pillows and a cowhide rug add warmth and texture.
The newly renovated interior features a beautiful white porcelain tile floor, providing a clean contemporary foundation for the vintage furnishings and artwork.

A Case Study Bedroom

The bedroom continues the modernist theme with an exceptionally comfortable king-size Case Study bed, complemented by crisp 100% cotton linens, a European duvet, and generous king-size pillows.
Duvet covers are freshly washed after every stay, so everything is crisp and ready for your arrival.
Blackout drapes provide complete privacy and create an exceptionally restful environment for sleeping.

The Palm Springs Indoor-Outdoor Experience

Expansive 12-foot sliding glass doors open directly from the bedroom onto a 200-square-foot private patio, creating an effortless connection between the interior and the outdoors.
The patio is furnished with two chaise lounges and vintage chairs, making it an inviting private retreat for morning coffee, afternoon sun, reading, or an evening cocktail.
A gas grill makes outdoor dining easy, while the mountain view orientation provides an especially pleasant place to enjoy Palm Springs’ extraordinary desert light.

A rare opportunity to stay in a Palm Springs Studio Suite where the architecture, furnishings, materials, and landscape come together to create a genuine midcentury modern experience.

#2 Studio Suite (PSP ID#4044) 2-night minimum

We loved our stay at the Desert Star! The room was stylish, clean and comfortable and had everything we needed, including a grill on our private back patio! We appreciated all of the thoughtful amenities including plastic cups to use poolside and the wifi and TV (equipped w/ HBO, Epix etc). We hope to come back again next time we visit Palm Springs!

Th Desert Star #2

What I love about the Desert Star, it that is really private and quiet, and centrally located. The bed and pillows are super-comfortable, and the layout makes the space feel much bigger than it is. My favorite space is the private back-patio. The kitchen, although small, was perfectly equipped for our needs. My husband and I have visited the Desert Star several times, and I am certain that we will return.

The Desert Star #2

The Desert Star was an amazing experience. Debra and Richard were incredible hosts. The fire department had to test our alarms one morning. Richard and Debra generously gifted us a bottle of wine for this trouble (though it wasn’t any trouble at all). The unit and grounds were gorgeous. The location was convenient. Our trip to Palm Springs would not have been what it was if we had stayed elsewhere. We can’t wait to get back!
