The Old Chequers is a gracious six-bedroom, all-en-suite country home designed for memorable gatherings. With a private garden, wood-fired hot tub and a dedicated games room, it offers the kind of comfort and space that bring multi-generational families, friends—and pets—together in style. A bright sunroom conservatory opens onto the secluded walled garden and the River Burn, creating a serene backdrop to slow mornings and relaxed afternoons.
Inside, the ground floor flows effortlessly between the lounge with its cosy log burner, the surround-sound TV room, the elegant dining room and the beautifully equipped kitchen. Solid wood worktops, a freestanding oven with separate grill, generous prep space and a full suite of appliances make cooking for a crowd both easy and enjoyable. The dining room seats twelve comfortably and features a drinks fridge and serving area, with an arched window that passes dishes straight into the fairy-lit courtyard—perfect for effortless al fresco evenings around the fire pit.
A fully equipped utility room—with two fridge freezers, washing machine, tumble dryer and an additional dishwasher—makes longer stays seamless.
For entertainment, the home offers distinct spaces so everyone can relax their own way. Unwind in the conservatory overlooking the garden, settle into the TV room for a movie night, or head to the separate games room with its statement pool table, arcade console and TV. Large glass doors open onto the garden, making this a lively hub for both kids and adults.
The flint-stone walled garden is a standout feature: spacious, private and beautifully laid out for outdoor living. Children and pets can run freely on the lawn while adults enjoy the hot tub or gather for long, slow meals on the deck or in the courtyard.
Each bedroom has been thoughtfully curated with high-quality mattresses, temperature-regulating bedding and premium down-and-feather linens. Every room enjoys its own en suite bathroom, wardrobe and Bluetooth speaker.
The wheelchair-friendly ground-floor bedroom has its own entrance and a walk-in shower, with twin setup available and a shower chair on request.
The master suite is particularly special, overlooking the garden and offering a super-king bed, private dressing room, underfloor heating, walk-in shower and a freestanding bath. Its adjoining ante room—with a sofa bed and TV—makes it ideal for guests travelling with little ones. Upstairs, a second master suite features a spacious layout, super-king/twin setup and an en-suite with both bath and shower. Three further king en-suite bedrooms complete the upper floor.
High-speed fibre internet, networked audio throughout the house and multiple entertainment zones ensure you can disconnect when you want to—or stay connected when you need to.
Parking is easy, with space for two cars in the gated driveway (up to four if arranged tightly) and additional street parking directly beside the house. The manual gate adds peace of mind for families with young children or pets.
Set in the peaceful village of South Creake, The Old Chequers is a luxurious base for exploring the North Norfolk Coast. The village offers a playground, tennis court and bowling green, all within walking distance. Burnham Market and Wells-next-the-Sea are an 8-minute drive away, while Holkham Beach and the magnificent Holkham Estate—with its woodland adventure playground—are just 10 minutes from your door.

The Old Chequers

Our group of 11, aged from 10 to 90, had a fantastic long weekend in this wonderful house. It was even better than the pictures suggest. The kitchen was very well equipped and we appreciated the welcome pack when we arrived. The games room was a highlight and the pool table and darts board had plenty of use. We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend The Old Chequers to others.

It was even better than the pictures suggest

We are just back from an amazing weekend in this beautiful house, 14 of us ranging from 22 months through to 80… the pictures do not do the house justice, the space, the facilities, the comfort and the overall experience was fantastic… watch out for the Ducks swimming through the garden …. Just perfect for our 80th birthday celebration :)

the overall experience was fantastic

We had a wonderful stay here. It was one of the most beautiful places we've ever stayed and we had a memorable few days. The rooms were perfect and living space great for socialising. The location was also very picturesque and we enjoyed some walks around the village. Would definitely stay again :)

We had a fantastic weekend celebrating my husbands birthday with friends. The house is beautiful with loads of room for our 11 guests. Lots of break out spaces and the sun room is beautiful in the morning and afternoon watching the stream and ducks whilst basking in the sun. Beautiful beaches very near.
