The English Lake District is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream, with activities ranging from hiking and trekking to canyoning, caving, mountain biking, climbing, water sports and fishing, guests will never be stuck for things to do. There are abundant forest trails, lakeside treks and pathways leading to cascading waterfalls which have existed for centuries. The famous Cumbrian Way begins on the shores of nearby Coniston Water and Grizedale Forest is a popular spot with nature lovers, hikers and mountain bikers from all over the country. The quaint town of Ambleside is a mere 10-minute drive from The Roost at Hawkshead. Visit Stock Ghyll waterfall, take a cruise on the Lake Windermere and don’t leave without a trip to Old Bank House Chocolate Shop for some yummy treats. Grasmere, a little further north is famous for its custom-made Lakeland perfumes and homemade gingerbread. Enjoy the latter with morning coffee overlooking the water, before making an inspirational stop at William Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage at Rydal Mount. Accessibility - the Loft has low door heights, the main entrance and door into the bedroom both are 158cm (a standard door is 198cm) this is due to the period nature of the property as a converted barn. These low heights are clearly marked but we want to make you aware before booking equally, due to height restrictions the balcony pictured isn't accessible but the patio offers a lovely outdoor, partially covered space.

Craftsman's Loft

We have had a great week at the Craftman’s Loft.
The property is beautifully furnished and really well equipped for a comfortable stay! It was spotless on arrival and very welcoming. It is in a perfect location with lovely views out towards the church grounds and hills behind.
We have enjoyed meals at the King’s Arms, Queens Head and lovely coffee and cake at the Minstrel Gallery.
We have had some good local walks to Tarn Hows, Latterbarrow and Wray Castle. We also had a dip in Esthwaite water!
The Coleys have been great hosts with super communication before and during our stay. We were very sad to leave and would love to stay again!

We immediately felt at home in this wonderful warm comfortable cottage. The place is spotlessly clean, well maintained & designed for comfort with great quality furnishings. Thoughtfully stocked kitchen with tea, coffee, crackers and Hawkshead relish was very welcoming.
The owners are so welcoming and friendly, easy to contact if you need anything, for example we needed to stay an extra night because we couldn't tear ourselves away from this beautiful village, this was facilitated so easily, and most appreciated.
Call me an old softie, but I wiped a couple of tears away as we left this year because it has been so wonderful.

The cosyest Christmas market weekend cottage

We recently stayed at Craftsman’s Loft, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The cottage was beautifully presented—spotlessly clean, cozy, and full of character. Every detail had been thought through, from the well-equipped kitchen to the comfortable beds and fresh linens.
The location was perfect: peaceful and scenic, yet close enough to local shops and attractions to make exploring easy.
Communication with the host was excellent—friendly, responsive, and helpful throughout. It really added to the overall experience.
If you’re looking for a relaxing getaway with all the comforts of home and a touch of luxury, I highly recommend Craftsman Loft. We can’t wait to return!

Lovely place with well equipped kitchen and spacious upstairs living area. Amenities of shops and places to eat within a few minutes walk. would happily stay again.

Spacious Living Area

This lovely cottage was perfect! Immaculate and stylish throughout. The village is about as quaint a place as I’ve ever seen! Everything you need is right there- delicious dining opportunities and very friendly people! If you’re driving to near-by sights… better brush up on your reaction time and your creative problem solving skills! Some of the roads can be harrowing!! But- it’s a beautiful place and the cottage is adorable.

Immaculate and stylish throughout
